Article #6: Book at One- Stay at Two

"Anchorage Rooms" and Ellen Bay Cottages have teamed up to offer you our guests the opportunity to book at either facility and split your stay between two remarkably different locations. In this way, with excellent personal service, you can get to really know Antigua better with your hosts Marilyn and Ray at "Anchorage Rooms", and Chippy and Bernadette at Ellen Bay Cottages. We would be happy to help you plan the ideal itinerary for your vacation, so that all arrangements are hassle free. You decide how long you wish to stay at either property and we provide free transport between them.

Ellen Bay Cottages is a fully equipped, self catering facility located right on the waterfront in the fishing village of Seatons, on the eastern side of the island. The property is best appreciated for the quiet, homely and natural environment in which it is located. You can walk along the water’s edge, taking in the calm and quiet of the Atlantic Ocean; pick up a conch shell along the way; swim in the local bay, and if you are a strong swimmer, even snorkel in the shallow channel to the closest uninhabited island.

In Seatons, you can engage in water sport activities at Stingray City and Antigua Paddles, and with Chippy as your captain, Ellen Bay Cottages invite you to take a splendid Boat Tour of the picturesque North Sound area, culminating on Great Bird Island. From Seatons you are close to many historic sites such as Indian Town and Devils Bridge, Gilbert Memorial Methodist Church, Gilbert Agricultural and Rural Development Center, and Betty’s Hope Sugar Plantation. Two of the best of the 365 beaches on the island, Long Bay and Half Moon Bay are only 10 – 15 minutes away by car.

"Anchorage Rooms" are clean, casual and comfortable budget accommodation. They are certainly situated in the greatest location in a National Park– close to the gates of Nelson’s Dockyard, one of the premier attractions on Antigua. English Harbour is Antigua’s world famous sailing destination and is a magnet for sailors and visitors from November to May every year. Step out of your room and you can walk to all marinas; bank and post office; supermarkets; restaurants and bars; dive centres; offices; hair and beauty shops; art galleries, boutiques and gift shops; as well as car, scooter and quad bike rentals. For your convenience, “Anchorage Rooms” are an agent for mountain bikes, and for your day of swimming and sunbathing, two gorgeous beaches are less than a 10 minute walk away.

For the bright lights and partying in the evening, "Anchorage Rooms" couldn’t be better. During the day, browse the area at a leisurely pace, taking in the restored buildings and other ruins of English Harbour. Be sure to visit the Dockyard Museum which houses a number of historical artefacts and local souvenirs. No stay in the English Harbour area would be complete without a dance to the steel band at Shirley’s Heights every Sunday. This staggeringly impressive site has spectacular views of Guadeloupe, Montserrat and Redonda. If you see the green flash as the sun goes down, your holiday will be complete!

From either Ellen Bay Cottages or "Anchorage Rooms", you can easily hire a taxi or rent a car and drive through Fig Tree Drive, the most lush and hilliest side of Antigua, stopping at the Antigua Rainforest Canopy Tours for a zip lining adventure, then travelling onwards through the villages on the southern side of the island, and ending up in the Jolly Harbour Marina where you can stop to do some shopping, eat at one of restaurants on the boardwalk or right on the beach.

For convenience and accessibility to all parts of Antigua, regular buses run into the traditional Caribbean capital city of St. John’s, located on the western side of the island. Here you can absorb the food, language and culture of the people by strolling through some of the busy streets, eating at a local restaurant, and visiting the Vegetable Market, Craft Market, Vendors Mall, Heritage Quay, Redcliffe Quay, Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, the St. John’s Cathedral and other landmarks of the city.

So......from two diverse destinations on Antigua, quiet to active, self catering to being catered for, "Anchorage Rooms" and Ellen Bay Cottages invite you to stay and enjoy the very best that both have to offer you as a guest on the beautiful island of Antigua – whatever the time of year you choose.
